Please WELCOME our new Interim Minister!
REV. J. David Hargrave grew up in Fort Worth, graduated from Eastern Hills High School and attended Texas Christian University. He is a 4‘" generation Disciple.
David's first foray into full-time ministry was dramatic: He toured for five years with the Covenant Players, an International Christian Repertory Theater Company. He toured in 28 states from California to Florida, and Texas to North Dakota.
Following that time on the road, David returned to Texas to take a position as Youth Director at Oaks Christian Church in Houston. That led to 20 years of bi-vocational ministry in the greater Houston area, including Houston proper and Freeport, in small and larger churches. In this period he worked full-time, raised a family and returned to school. He graduated from Houston Graduate School of Theology in 2001 with a M.Div. and was ordained that same year in the Disciples of Christ.
Rev. Hargrave took training in pastoral care at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston. He completed a course of study with the ecumenical Cenacle Retreat House in Houston, earning a certificate in Spiritual Direction, after a 3-year course of study.
Since entering full-time pastoral ministry, David has served Disciples Churches in Houston, Katy, and Abilene before moving to Northwest Christian Church in Arlington, in March 2014. Rev. Hargrave will retire from Northwest to begin serving in interim ministries.
David was active in community affairs and area and regional Disciples affairs in each of his full-time posts.
Rev. Hargrave is married to Cookie. They have twin daughters, two sons, and two granddaughters.
